The Friday and Saturday running of the ELR gala are featured in this compilation. As usual at the Lancs the volunteers put on a great show. All shots showcase the locos reaching full power at a variety of locations . Weather was very mixed but didnt spoil the enjoyment. Filmed on the Thursday and Friday of the annual KWVR Diesel festival at various locations along the line. 37250 AND D1015 being my stars of the event. Locos featured D9520 37075 37250 50021( only filmed in a pair, loco had power issues, fixed for Saturday) 50008 D1015

56078 tackles Copy Pit with the morning Haverton Hill- Preston Docks bitumen tanks. Sadly 078 is one of the quieter Colas machines and is more of a "fizzer" than a "thudder" but still a nice sight on full power.

Sounding fantastic getting away from Hellifield , 518 roars past on the returning Carlisle to York Dalesman. 518 has been pretty shy South of the border in recent years so was good to see and hear it again.

Sounding fantastic once again , 40013 is seen on the outward leg of the Crewe -Scarborough climbing Miles Platting Bank and at Mossley. On the return it is seen at Hebden Bridge .

Far away from the red penned, re-engined, re-engineered visitors, homefleet 50035 sounds as good as it as ever has in my humble opinion as it blasts away from the slack at Sterns during the SVR Diesel Festival.

Sounds fantastic , reminds me of how 110 used to be when it was based at the SDR .
They were in the process of replacing the Class 50 locos on the Oxford and Newbury runs out of Paddington around that time. The Thames Turbos were around 18 months away from being taken into service to replace the Class 117 and 121 units and in time the loco hauled Oxford and Newbury services.

Colas Grids best to worst..... 56090 56113 56087 56105 56049 56302 56096 56094 56078 and by a mile the worst one is .. 56051 That's my own subjective and personal view . Normally I would of flagged this morning being 051 and a pair but was up and about anyway and local to me .

Because it has a Napier turbo, fitted by EWS in the early noughties,unlike the other class members with the standard turbo. Cracking spot there and a great view. JG.
Correct mate , hence why the likes of 56090 , 091 are much louder.
@@hughesy45108 Sure is. 56078 does boast a little more power though at 3290bhp compared to the 3250hp of the rest. The turbo is bigger and draws more air hence the power increase,but it's design makes it quieter. Appologies for the James May style info haha. JG.

16:40 and all the other moments you let the engine roaring away in the distance reminds me of getting the old Thumper DMUs from Dorking to Gomshall when I was a kid in 70s and they go off up the hill towards Guildford as we crossed the track to meet my grandfather (it was a staggered platform and no footbridge, then). And you'd hear the wonderful sound go off into the distance. Mum and dad would sometimes let me linger ❤
I always switch the camera on early and leave it till I can't hear the engine working hard....it's all about the sound . Glad I stirred up some memories for you . Thanks for commenting
